4 Outdoor Art Experiences in Philadelphia and New Jersey

Art doesn’t stop and start when you sit down with a pencil to draw. Art is all around us and there are many wonderful outdoor art activities and events in our tri-state area which you can enjoy for some time alone or time with family.

Here is a list of some of our favorite outdoor art activities in our area;

1. Grounds for Sculpture. The Grounds for Sculpture is a massive park filled with sculptures and rolling grassy fields. As of July 30th, the Grounds for Sculpture will once again be open to the public from Thursday - Monday. Check out their website before you visit for updates and guidelines. This space will be a great opportunity to get out and stretch your mind and legs.

Location: Hamilton, New Jersey.

2. Mural Mile Walking Tour. If you have visited Philadelphia, you have probably noticed some of the incredible murals that are all around the city. In fact, Philadelphia has over 3,600 murals, making it a global mural leader. Take the day to enjoy both or one of the two Mural Mile Walking tours. It is self guided so you can take your time.

3. Sculptures around the Philadelphia Museum of Art. While the museum itself is currently closed, the grounds around the museum have some beautiful outdoors sculptures you can explore in the Anne d’Harnoncourt Sculpture Garden. The park backs up to the Schuylkill River which has some beautiful walking trails making it a nice outdoor day.

4. Asbury Park Boardwalk Murals. The Asbury Park Boardwalk is full of beautiful transformative murals thanks to the Wooden Walls program which began in 2015. Walk the boardwalk and see how many beautiful murals you can find while enjoying the beach.

Location: Asbury Park, New Jersey.

While these are only a few of the art activities in our area, current limitations make these a comfortable and safe outing for family young and old. The beauty of these activities is that they are self guided and allow you to go at your own pace so you can feel comfortable and relaxed while you explore local art.
